Citizen Of The World

I’m a citizen of the world,
Not only ’cause in different lands I’ve twirled,
But ’cause my home is where my heart is,
Not only where I signed my house’s lease.
Weak though my past roots may be,
I flow in the air where the wind takes me,
As long as it’s okay with my family and I,
I can go and be in lands low and high.

Always loved to say the world is my oyster,
Though vegetarian, I’ll eat anything ’cause nothing’s tastier,
Than the food for soul from looking around with fresh eyes,
Learning of worlds old and new, immersed in colourful skies,
So long as I’m able to be me — without too many rough tries.

Too cold? I’ll wear a coat.
Too warm? In cool waters, I’ll learn to float.
Too tough a language? As long as I can find a village,
With people that see kindness in their passage,
I’ll find a way — with gestures and broken words,
To express all that comes from being me,
’Cause that’s all I can ever truly be.

Just need waters to sit next to,
To dwell on my heart in times it goes blue,
Or sing songs of my loves and truest of joys;
Especially if there’s an ocean with beauty to sing to.
Just need some reflections to look at,
To sit with myself or the ones I love for a chat,
With leafy trees and swimming ducks in sights,
On the warmest of days and the coldest of nights,
’Cause that’s mostly all I need to be me.

I may dance to different tunes in different lands,
When it’s from the heart — it’s what moves my hands.
I may see different flowers in different gardens,
The love remains the same, and with the right ones,
I find there to be abundant and in tons.
Only thing that really changes are the details,
But the source of it all remains the same,
So long as I can carry on this flame,
There… I find my happiness to be,
’Cause there… I am fully me.
